Mahealani Uchiyama
presents...
A Walk By The Sea
@ODC
Oct 13-15 8pm
"A 45-year old of African-American lineage, Mahealani Uchiyama
doesn't just practice the ancient Hawaiian art of hula; as unlikely as her
background suggests, the sinewy, dreadlocked 6-footer is a kumu hula - an
award-winning dance master and teacher." Steve Dougherty, Ladies Home
Journal, April 2003.
A Walk By the Sea is an evening of storytelling, song and dance featuring
Mahealani Uchiyama. A dancer, singer, musician and teacher who has been a part
of the Bay Area dance community since the early 1980’s, Mahealani will weave
together performance traditions of Africa and the Pacific Islands into a
spellbinding story of self discovery.
